Adley’s First Day of Preschool

This much anticipated day finally arrived.  This is the same preschool in town that Jaylyn attended.  Our pastor’s wife is the teacher there which is awesome.  Adley kept asking me if this was where I left her there by herself.  I would say, “yes. . . you stay and we leave” and she would cheer!  :-)  She is a little more excited about socializing than her bigger sister.  Hee hee!  I could already observe this one day while peeking in the window at her before pick-up.  She was too busy trying to slide next to a new friend and talking to her while Ms. Sheila was trying to get their attention.  She is definitely distracted easily so hopefully she will gain some focusing skills.  :-)  Ms. Sheila said she was a little chatty.  Ha!  Of course, she is a girl and she is three.  What else would you expect?  So far, she loves it.  She has a friend from church that goes there who is one of her best friends.  The rest are all new friends for her which is fine with her.  She is very eager to learn and works very hard to color and write her letters and numbers well.  I think it will be a great year.  (And we have been able to get quite a lot of school with Jaylyn accomplished while Adley is at preschool. . . hmmmmmm)

Just a couple pics from a beautiful day at the zoo over the Labor Day weekend.  We also stopped in at the Art Museum so we could look at the mummies since we have been studying Ancient Egypt.  Those are always pretty cool.  Then we had a visit from Uncle Scott!

Over Labor Day weekend, we headed to the park in the evening just before the wind was dying down.  The girls got a bit of kite flying in that night and had a blast.

Pyramid Art

We are enjoying ancient history this year.  Our history curriculum has some fun hands-on activities to go along with our studies, but I was also pleased to see some neat ancient art lessons in the art book I use with Jaylyn from time to time.  So, during our week we were discussing pyramids, we were able to complete the lesson about pyramid wall art.  We went to the upstairs hallway so it seemed a little more like a passageway in a pyramid, hung up some paper and let them create their own masterpiece.  Jaylyn was to try out oil pastels to draw with and we used a chalk line to make a grid on their paper like the Egyptians did for their wall art.  As usual, Jaylyn got into this creative kind of activity.  She worked hard to create her art and then wanted to keep going.  She did three big art pieces while Adley actually joined in with two.  I think they would have kept going!  Then Jaylyn began giving pretend “tours” of their passageway.  :-)

Ahhhhhhhhhhh. . . .

This is that time of year (aside from the itchy eyes that actually makes me say, “Aaaarrrrrrggggg!”).  It is not so hot and not cold and you are tired of the sweat.  You step outside and that cool breeze says, “Hi there! Did you miss me?”  And the kids run through the grass and squeal because mom is willing to go outside again. :-)  Jaylyn has been insisting on doing some of our lunches and reading time outside.  Actually, one morning (on Adley’s first day of preschool – post for that coming soon) we did pretty much all of her main school stuff outside.  So, here they are enjoying the weather. . .

Swinging is a favorite.  Adley is working hard to learn to pump those legs and keep going herself.  Jaylyn likes to step in and push her sisters sometimes.  Leighton LOVES the swing, of course.

Today, I learned. . .

Today, I learned not to try and read a book about lions for science class when Leighton is around because it is impossible for anyone to hear anything while she is roaring over and over - very loudly!!!
