(I forgot to put this on the last post)
For dinner we didn’t get back in time for our free dinner at the hotel. Bummer! But, we headed back to Manitou Springs to a restaurant to try a buffalo burger. It happened to be a bit more pricy of a restaurant than we wanted, but the burger tasted good. The funniest part was when we asked the waitress about what we had seen happening at the park by where we parked. There were lots of cars there and we could hear some drumming. I saw a man get out of his car with his djembe drum and head that way. She thought about what day this was and what might be happening there. When we told her we heard drumming, she said, “Oh, it’s probably just some hippie drum circle.” And then she walked off. I told you it was definitely a hippy little town. :) So, we went by the tent to peek in for ourselves and sure enough, it was definitely a hippie drumming event. Lots of dred locks, long skirts, bare feet, and hippie ‘smells”. (wink, wink) Just hanging out and drumming and other hippies just watching. And there were LOTS of them and they were just drumming the same cadence over and over. As we were headed back to the car, they started getting faster and faster and heard some of them hollering Indian-like. It was one of the funniest things we’ve ever seen. (Hopefully this doesn’t insult any of my many hippie readers! Ha!!! Or maybe my closet-hippie friends. Hee hee!) Where might you find many of these hippies if you decide to visit Manitou Springs? Be sure to check out the shop called “The Poppy Seed”. Funny, huh? You might even seen one of them outside with a hacky-sack or something. Actually there were quite a few obvious hippie kind of shops and many hippies to be found. But, we are pleased to be able to say, we have seen a hippie drum circle! It was a bit too dark to take a picture and it was a little intimidating to think about taking their picture. So, you will have to go check it out yourself.
